A Man, A Wife, and a Baby

Failed my 1-hr test August 29, 2007

I failed my 1-hour gestational diabetes test.  For those of you out of the loop on those things, it’s a standard test they have pregnant women do to check them for gestational diabetes.  I had to drink some stuff that tasted like flat orange pop, or a melted orange popsicle and then get my blood drawn an hour later.

They told me I should eat as normal, and I had just run out of oatmeal, so I had some Frosted Mini Wheats before I went for the test and sure enough, my sugar level was a little too high.  So, they are making me come back in on Friday morning for this 3 hour test.  I’ll have my blood drawn, drink more flat orange pop, and then have my blood drawn after 1, 2, and 3 hours.  I don’t know which will be worse, hunger or the draws.

In other health-related baby news, I’m also on the low side of “normal” for iron.  The doc would like me to start taking some iron supplement to help me stay ironic ;)   HA!  Anyway, they said that the baby is just using a lot of my iron, so I need to take something to help keep my level up and it will hopefully help me to not be so tired.  A miracle pill, perhaps?  :)

Baby is good- he kicks a lot.  I think he has me trained like Pavlov’s dog…he kicks, I get hungry.  Go figure.

We’ll keep ya posted.

100 Days Left! August 12, 2007

While the baby can decide on his own when he’ll be coming to visit with everyone, the doctor’s due date says we have 100 days left. (102 until Thanksgiving!)

Sorry it’s been a while since an update- things have been busy here. Jason has been very busy working and I’ve been busy working and sleeping :) Since our last update, Jason has been to the eye doc for histoplasmosis in both eyes- not good. Fortunately, it has stopped itself in both eyes. We just hope that it stays stopped and doesn’t start to grow anymore. Also since the last blog, I got to go on a market trip to visit with some of the marketing directors that I work with by phone on a regular basis. That was cool- hard work, but cool.

Now for baby updates- our little guy has been growing and kicking away. He always lets me know when he’s hungry. About 10 minutes before I realize I’m hungry, he starts kicking. It’s like my warning sign. I go for my next appointment on the 24th for my gestational diabetes testing. Keep your fingers crossed for a one-hour passed test! If not, I’ll have to go back for another test that’ll take 3 hours- boooo.

Jason is very excited and is always saying he can’t wait until the baby is here. I feel the same way, but I just feel like there are so many things I want to have taken care of before the baby arrives. Work, home, every where. And of course, those irrational fears about the delivery room. I’ve decided that God makes women get really big and uncomfortable at the end of their pregnancies so they won’t fear the delivery room so much. Since I’m not feeling horrible, I still have those fears. Everything from IV’s (I know- it’s not a big deal, but it is to me) to the baby being healthy and everything going smoothly. I want to have a nice, v-birth. I’d prefer to not have a c-section. All of these little fears coming up. God will take care of it- and I’ll be able to take whatever comes my way, but I have this “ideal” way things I want things to happen and highly doubt it goes that way. I just want to have a good 100 days, get the nursery finished, find good child care, and have a safe and healthy remainder of this pregnancy.
